How it works

  • The fee, less any manager’s cut, is the gig total.
  • Each player’s round trip comes out of the gig total first and goes back to them on top.
  • The rest splits equally, in whole pence, so the shares always add up to the gig total.

How function bands split gig money

Questions people ask

Why does travel come out before the split?

Split first and the player who drove furthest pays for the gig on everyone else’s behalf. Travel off the top means everyone is paid the same for playing.

How does a dep get paid?

The band pays the member as if they had played: the share, plus the dep’s travel. The member settles with the dep.

What is the manager’s cut?

Whatever percentage the band agreed with whoever books it, taken before anyone shares. Put 0 if the band runs itself.

Does it work outside the UK?

Yes: the UK, Ireland, the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, each in its own money, postcodes and miles or kilometres.

Is this the same arithmetic the app uses?

Yes, to the penny. It runs the same module as the app’s statements, and a test compares the two on every build.
